Daniil Medvedev vs Hyeon Chung. Tennis Picks

Chung came under spotlight last season when he became World’s no. 44 around mid-September last year. By the end of year the rating went down a bit although at the very end Chung won his first ATP titles as he won the final tournament Next Gen Finals in Milan. In the final match Chung defeated A. Rublev and in that way won the important title without losing a single match.

Before the Australian Open Chung played at two tournaments this season. The first one was ATP Brisbane where the Korean reached the second round when he lost to K. Edmund after a great fight. He made one step further in Auckland where was stopped in the quarter-final by D. Ferrer. To reach the second round of the Australian Open Chung played incomplete match with M. Zverev. The German was forced to surrender the match in the second set and the result read at the moment 6-2, 4-1 for Chung.
D. Medvedev

Medvedev also reached the best rating in his career around middle of season when he occupied the 48th place in the ATP list. He came to the Australian Open Word’s no. 53 and it is interesting fact that the Russian hasn’t been defeated since the beginning of season. His current score is 6-0, given that he won the first title in his career at recently finished tournament in Sydney. In the final match of the tournament Medvedev defeated A. de Menauro after three sets.

Regarding his results made last year we should say that Medvedev achieved the best results at tournaments played on grass surface, given he reached quarter-finals at tournament in s-Hertogenbosch and Queen’s Club, while after that he played in semi-finals of tournament in Eastbourne. In the first round of Australian Open Medvedev eliminated Australian player T. Kokkinakis by 3-1 in sets.
H. Chung – D. Medvedev PICK

The two young players met just once and that was at the abovementioned tournament in Milan. The two of them played in the semi-finals and Chung won after five sets 4-1, 4-1, 3-4, 1-4, 4-0. The bookies again give advantage to Chung but it should be taken into consideration that Medvedev hasn’t been defeated since the beginning of year and is in very good shape. That is why we believe the Russian has very good chance to surprise favoured Cheng and that we will see an uncertain match.
