The Australian sportswoman stated that, following an analysis carried out together with those in her team, she decided not to travel to the United States, in order not to expose herself to the risks caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

“I decided, together with my team, not to travel to the United States for Cincinnati and the US Open. I love these events, it was a very difficult decision to make, but there are still many risks related to COVID-19 and I would not feel comfortable exposing myself and my team to these risks.

I wish all the best to the American Tennis Federation and I can’t wait to return there next year “, announced Ashleigh Barty.

De altfel, Simona Halep a invocat același motiv și în momentul retragerii de la Palermo, primul turneu WTA programat după pauza forțată, care va fi difuzat în direct pe Digi Sport 2 începând cu 3 august.
