The week before Melbourne, Giorgi made a run to the semifinal of Sydney International, winning six matches from the qualifying rounds and defeating the likes of Stephens, Radwanska, and Kvitova.
However, since Australia, Giorgi has played in just two other tournaments, Dubai (lost in qualifying rounds to Zhuk) and Miami (lost to Vekic). She withdrew from the Indian Wells citing elbow injury which also kept her out of action in the last three months of 2017.
This will be Giorgi’s first appearance at Charleston since 2013 (third overall) when she recorded her best result in the tournament, a second round.

Silvia Soler-Espinosa Pick

Silvia Soler-Espinosa will be playing her first tour-level main draw match since 2017 Gstaad (July). The current world #205 has defeated two Americans, #945 Nicole Melichar and #291 Sophie Chang, to book her fourth Charleston main draw appearance.
The former world #54 last won a main draw match at this tournament in 2013 when, as a debutante, she defeated the 2010 French Open champion, Francesca Schiavone in the third set tiebreaker.
