Dalila Jakupovic vs Magda Linette will met today at WTA – SINGLES: Bogota (Colombia), clay.
Linette and Jakupovic have met four times on the ITF circuit, with the latest meetings happening in 2015 (New Delhi and Aurangabad, India). Jakupovic leads the H2H 3-1, while going 2-0 on clay. On paper, it would seem that Linette will be the favorite. However, these past meetings tell a completely different story.

Magda Linette has defended her Bogota quarterfinal points by getting the better of #114 Rodina and #443 Herazo Gonzalez in straight sets. While Linette was broken six times by the Russian, she did not give a single breakpoint opportunity to the Colombian wildcard.
These two wins come after Linette lost to #202 qualifier Claire Liu in the first round of Volvo Car Open, her worst loss-by-ranking in the last twelve months.
Linette, if she wins this match against Jakupovic, will be the only semifinalist not to have met a current or former top 100 player en route. Last year, playing as a debutante, she defeated #146 Kostova and #175 Podoroska to reach the last eight.
Linette, whose season highlights are the Australian Open third round and Taipei quarterfinal, has not won three main-draw matches in a row since March 2017, when she reached the semifinal of Kuala Lumpur (one of those wins came via retirement).

Dalila Jakupovic registers yet another 6-2 6-2 win at Bogota as she defeats Kostova to reach the quarterfinal. She subdued #91 Riske with the same scoreline in the first round. This is an improvement on her last year’s debut appearance (second round).
This will be Jakupovic’s first appearance in a tour-level quarterfinal. Her biggest singles final came last year in November. While ranked #252 (currently, she is at #141), she reached the final of WTA $125k Mumbai, but lost to #92 Sabalenka.
The Slovenian is yet to lose a set after playing seven matches on clay in 2018. She started the clay season with an $80,000 ITF title at Canberra (Australia) in March, where she also won the doubles title, partnering with Australia’s Priscilla Hon.
