Ivo Karlovic was winless in four matches (all on clay) before entering the grass season, and the form looks more worrying now as he failed to stop the slump on grass (0/2), the surface on which he has won over 100 matches in his career (101/54).
The 39-year-old Croatian made his Wimbledon debut back in 2001 and will make his 16th appearance on Monday. However, his best result in this tournament was reaching the quarterfinal once in 2009.
Ivo Karlovic, who lost a closely fought five-set match to Aljaz Bedene in the first round of Wimbledon 2017, has played four grand slam matches this season and two of those matches has gone to the distance, against Andreas Seppi (L) and Yuichi Sugita (W).
Mikhail Youzhny was going through a three-match losing run before entering the grass season but has managed to improve the results by registering six wins over the last three weeks (6/4). However, none of those six wins came in the main draw.
Like Ivo Karlovic, the Russian veteran made his Wimbledon debut in 2001 but has entered the main draw of Wimbledon every year since then. His best result here was also reaching the quarterfinal once in 2012.
The 36-year-old Mikhail Youzhny taking on the 39-year-old Ivo Karlovic is the ideal matchup for both these players as they look to register a rare main draw win at this stage of their career.
