Jeremy Chardy vs Matthew Ebden Tennis Prediction

Jeremy Chardy extends his winning run to eight matches with a hard-fought three-set win over Mackenzie McDonald in the quarterfinal. The Frenchman trailed the deciding set tiebreaker by 2-4 but did well to secure the win, 6-4 4-6 7-6.
Entering the Surbiton Challenger last week as the top seed, the new London resident Jeremy Chardy defeated the likes of Alex de Minaur, Dan Evans and Denis Kudla to lift his career’s first title on grass.
With the win against Mackenzie McDonald, Jeremy Chardy recorded his career-best result at ATP Hertogenbosch as his previous best result here was reaching the quarterfinal twice in 2009 and 2013.
Jeremy Chardy, who is known for coming up short in big matches or crunch moments, lost his recent seven semifinal matches on tour with the last semifinal success coming against Nicolas Kiefer in ATP Stuttgart 2009, when the tournament was contested on clay.
This will be the former world #25 Jeremy Chardy’s first semifinal appearance in a grass tour-level event. He previously made two semifinals in Challenger events and managed to win both of them, against Dan Evans in Surbiton Challenger 2018 and Izak van der Merwe in Nottingham Challenger 2011.
Matthew Ebden carried on his excellent start to the grass season with a straight win over Marius Copil in the quarterfinal. He is yet to lose a set this week having previously beaten Tim Smyczek (R1) and Gilles Muller (R16) in straight sets.
Entering as a qualifier at the Surbiton Challenger last week, the experienced Australian won five matches before losing the quarterfinal to compatriot Alex De Minaur.
Former world #61 Matthew Ebden, who made his ATP World Tour debut in 2010, has made only one semifinal appearance (on tour) so far in his career. Entering the grass tournament at Newport as a qualifier in 2017, he defeated the likes of Rajeev Ram and Peter Gojowczyk (SF) but lost to John Isner in the title decider.
Jeremy Chardy won all their previous three meetings in straight sets and will once again start as the favorite. That said, this is an excellent opportunity for both Matthew Ebden and Jeremy Chardy to make a rare finals appearance at this level.
