Immediately before the Grand Slam tournament in Wimbledon, six grass tournaments will take place this year. One of them is called now Libema Open in Rossmalen, ‘s-Hertogenbosch, The Netherlands.

The tournament will carry the new name Libema Open with effect from this year. This puts an end to the naming of the tournament by Ricoh Netherlands in the past two years. Libema, also owner of Autotron, was one of the initiators of the grass tournament in 1989. In the meantime, Libema has grown into one of the largest leisure companies in the Netherlands with more than 20 locations and more than 4 million visitors per year. Before that, the tournament was called Ricoh Open, Heineken Trophy, Ordina Open, UNICEF Open and Topshelf Open.

History of the Libema Open

In the Netherlands, the Libema Open has been held since 1990, traditionally in the summer. Originally the championship was played in the first week of the June grass series, but in the mid-1990s it was moved to the third, then to the second week. In 1996, women’s competitions were added to the traditional program. Because of this, the status of the tournament has increased. It also made it possible to move its date back to the first week of the June series.
Over the years of its existence, the championship has been renamed several times.

The first game in the main schedule starts at 11 am on Monday 11 June. The finals of the singles are on Sunday, June 17. The tournament in ‘s-Hertogenbosch is part of the ATP-World-Tour 250 tournaments, so it is about 250 world ranking list points.
