Noah Rubin fought back from a set and break down against Franco Skugor and scored a solid straight-set win over Frank Dancevic to book his main draw berth in ATP Geneva on his debut appearance.
The American has got a lot of momentum on his side at the moment, having finished as the runner-up at ITF USA (clay) and won the title at Tallahassee Challenger in the recent weeks. Marcos Baghdatis is currently on a three-match losing run, and it extends to four if only the ATP World Tour matches are considered. In fact, he could not win a set on clay in a best-of-three-sets match since losing in three sets to Gilles Simon in Madrid 2016.
The former Australian Open finalist Marcos Baghdatis, whose career has been marred with constant fitness issues, produced improved performances earlier this season and made to the round of 16 at the Indian Wells (won five matches as a qualifier), but unfortunately, he could not continue and was forced to pull out of his quarterfinal match citing an illness.
Former world #8 Baghdatis made his Geneva debut in 2015 but lost to Thomaz Bellucci in three sets, 6-7 6-3 6-3. He now returns to the tournament after a two years break.
