Ionuț Stroe, Minister of Youth and Sports, announced that professional tennis players can return to training on the field after May 15, when the state of emergency in Romania will expire.

However, athletes are required to follow a strict protocol established by the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Youth and Sports, when it comes to returning to training.

At the tennis court, an attempt is made to reduce the contact between the participants, this measure including the abandonment of ball children.

“It is not allowed to access the tennis court of the children’s balls, nor to change the court between the participants. I recommend that they mark their balls and use them only for personal service.

All sports equipment must be disinfected. The used clothing will be put in special bags. The medical staff must be equipped with protective equipment “, Ionuț Stroe declared, in a press conference.

🎾ATP and WTA circuits, suspended until July 13

Although Romanian tennis players may return to training soon, they will not have official matches too soon.

In early April, the ATP and the WTA, the two major tennis forums, decided to extend the suspension of the men’s and women’s circuit until July 13, at the earliest, due to the coronavirus pandemic.
