Wimbledon tournament leaders issued a statement listing possible scenarios for the 2020 competition. Cancellation is being considered.

Officials of the London Grand Slam begin the letter by presenting their support to those suffering from coronavirus, and then state that they are in an ongoing dialogue with the Government, the World Health Organization and the ATP and WTA circuits. Next is a rather pessimistic one for tennis fans.

🎾Delay, difficult to achieve

The Wimbledon tournament is played on grass, and deferral is a difficult option for this very reason. The playing surface would lose its attributions if the event were moved to the end of the calendar year, according to the statement issued by the officials of All England Lawn Tennis & Croquet Club.

As the development with closed gates is excluded from the beginning, the most likely solution is to cancel the competition in 2020.

Simona Halep (28, 2 WTA) is the Wimbledon title champion. In 2019, the Romanian defeated Serena Williams in the last act, score 6-2, 6-2. If the tennis season is resumed with the gates closed and the Wimbledon tournament canceled, Simona could lose 2,000 points.

However, the classification system was overridden by coronaviruses, and officials are considering several variants.
