Alexander Zverev vs Hyeon Chung Tennis Prediction

Hyeon Chung leads the H2H 2-0 (1-0 on clay) including winning their recent meeting at the Australian Open earlier this season. While Chung will have the mental edge over Zverev, being the defending champion and playing at home levels up the field a bit for Zverev.

Alexander Zverev News

After surviving an early scare against compatriot Yannick Hanfmann in the second round (R1 bye), Alexander Zverev secured a comfortable win against a much difficult quarterfinal opponent, Jan Lennard Struff, on Friday, 6-3 6-2.
The top seed Zverev will now make his fourth semifinal appearance of the season and third in his last three tournaments. However, apart from defeating Pablo Carreno Busta in Miami, he lost the other two semifinals against Juan Martin Del Potro in Acapulco and Kei Nishikori in Monte Carlo.
Defending champion Zverev has previously played two semifinals here in Munich, defeated Roberto Bautista Agut in 2017 (after defeating Struff in the quarterfinal) but lost to Dominic Thiem in 2016.
This is a good start to the clay swing for Alexander Zverev (SF at Monte Carlo and SF* at Munich) who won 16 matches on this surface in 2017, including winning the title at the Rome Masters and Munich.

Hyeon Chung News

Hyeon Chung continued his terrific start to the season by knocking out the in-form Martin Klizan in straight sets. Doing so, he booked his second consecutive semifinal berth here at Munich.
Making his Munich debut in 2017, the Korean youngster progressed to the semifinal (lost to Guido Pella) to register his best ever result in a tour-level clay event. It remains as his only semifinal appearance in a clay tournament (on tour).
Like Zverev (faced Struff in 2017 QF), Hyeon Chung faced the same quarterfinal opponent as this year, Martin Klizan, but lost the following match to a seasoned clay courter, Guido Pella.
The win against Klizan on Friday was vital for the Next Gen Star considering he lost his previous four quarterfinals at Delray Beach, Acapulco, Indian Wells and Miami. Nevertheless, apart from failing in the second round of Brisbane in the season opener, Chung has made at least the quarterfinal in the remaining seven tournaments that he entered so far in 2018.

Tennis Prediction: Hyeon Chung
Odds: 2.30
