Borna Coric vs Roger Federer Tennis Prediction

The defending champion Roger Federer put in a shaky performance yet again as he was broken back immediately in the first set and looked in all sorts of trouble in the second set (saved five break points) before securing the progression in straight sets, 7-6 7-5.
Roger Federer, who has won a record 18 titles on grass so far in his career, has never won more than one tour-level grass-court tournament before entering the Wimbledon. He has the chance to do it on Sunday, having won his maiden title at ATP Stuttgart last week.
“I’m very happy. I’ve never played back-to-back finals on grass like this in events before Wimbledon. So, this is a first for me. I’m very happy having won Stuttgart and, now, making another final here in Halle is great. I would have taken that any day a month ago.” – said Federer after booking his place in Sunday’s final.
The world #1 Roger Federer’s record in the finals of ATP Halle stands at 9-2, with those two defeats coming against Lleyton Hewitt in 2010 and Tommy Haas in 2012. Moreover, he is on a 20-match winning streak on grass at the moment with the last defeat on this surface coming against Tommy Haas in Stuttgart 2017 (2017- 12/1, 2018- 8/0).
Roberto Bautista Agut was forced to retire early in the semifinal match, sending Borna Coric to the final of a grass tournament for the first time in his career. The Croatian is yet to lose a set this week, having secured dominant straight-set wins over Alexander Zverev, Nikoloz Basilashvili, and Andreas Seppi.
This will also be the Croatian youngster’s first tour-level championship match of the season as his previous best was reaching the semifinal at Indian Wells, where he lost to Roger Federer in three sets (next opponent).
Borna Coric has already made three finals on tour so far in his young career, and after losing the first two finals (Marrakech 2016 and Chennai 2016), he won the recent one at Marrakech in 2017.
Roger Federer won their first meeting at Dubai 2015 comfortably in straight sets, but Borna Coric very nearly leveled the H2H when they met recently at the Indian Wells earlier this season as he led the match by a set and break (7-5 3-1) before the Swiss #1 mounted a comeback (5-7 6-4 6-4). Though Borna Coric hasn’t got a great record on grass (7/11 in career), Roger Federer’s recent performances (far from best) will give him a glimmer of hope going into this contest.

Tennis Prediction: Roger Federer 2-0
