Camila Giorgi vs Mariana Duque-Marino Tennis Prediction

Camila Giorgi slides past American qualifier Grace Min, 6-3 6-2, without getting broken once in the one hour and 14 minutes first round match. It was the Italian who was aggressive from start to finish, winning 81% on her serve and hitting 34 winners (compared to Min’s five).
Giorgi has been at this stage of the French Open three times in the past. But, she suffered straight-set losses on every occasion, at the hands of Muguruza (2014-15) and Bertens (2016). Last year, she was upset by #93 Oceane Dodin in the first round (6-2 6-3).
The Italian posted a decent clay season in the last two months, which included a semifinal at Prague (d. Stosur, Strycova) and a quarterfinal at Lugano (d. Kr. Pliskova, Van Uytvanck). The run at Prague was Giorgi’s first clay semifinal on the tour.
Mariana Duque-Marino, who had a 1-17 record against top 20 players before this week, has shocked world #20 Anastasija Sevastova from a set down (4-6 6-1 6-3). The Colombian hit more winners (27) and committed less unforced errors (25) than the Latvian.
Duque-Marino qualified to the main draw after saving a match point in the final qualifying round against Dalila Jakupovic. Last year, the 28-year-old registered her second slam third round appearance (2015 US Open) at Paris, defeating Rybarikova and Irina-Camelia Begu.
The pair met each other here at Paris six years ago in the qualifying rounds. Both players were then ranked outside top 100, but it was the Italian who prevailed in straight sets. Giorgi is favored to repeat that result on Wednesday as well.
