These two players have never met before. Marius Copil is more experienced (relatively) at this level, but Caper Ruud has got huge potential and is the better player on clay which makes him the slight favorite here.

Casper Ruud is entering Munich after having a good week at Francavilla Challenger last week, where he defeated the likes of Felix Auger Aliassime, Matteo Donati, and Antoine Hoang before finishing as the runner-up to Gianluigi Quinzi in Sunday’s final.
However, it’s been a disappointing start to the season for the teenager as apart from reaching the second round (as a qualifier) in the Australian Open and reaching the quarterfinal at Noumea Challenger, he has failed to register a notable result in any other tournaments (before Francavilla Challenger), despite winning 17 matches from the possible 27.
Casper Ruud has already made three main draw appearances in a tour-level event this season (except Grand slam) with his only win coming against Carlos Berlocq in the first round of ATP Quito. His recent main draw match at this level ended with retirement against Diego Schwartzman in Rio de Janeiro.

Marius Copil, who could win only one of his previous five matches, scored two solid wins in the qualifying stages this week to advance into the main draw of ATP Munich.
While the young Norwegian is making his Munich debut this week, Marius Copil has appeared here twice and registered one win against Thiago Monteiro in the first round of 2017 edition.
Though the Romanian has made a below-par start to the season, he did manage to post his career-best result in a tour-level event by finishing as the runner-up at ATP Sofia earlier this season.
