Dominic Thiem vs Roberto Carballes Baena Tennis Prediction

Dominic Thiem played peak tennis to knock out Rafael Nadal in the quarterfinal of Madrid Masters two weeks back but suffered two disappointing defeats against Alexander Zverev (final at Madrid) and Fabio Fognini (R2 at Rome) in the following matches.
The Austrian #1, Dominic Thiem, is the only player to have beaten Rafael Nadal on clay in the last 16 months and he has done it twice, in Rome 2017 and Madrid 2018, but he’s got nothing to show for, having failed to win a big title during this period.
Dominic Thiem now enters the main draw of an ATP 250 series in Lyon as the top seed, the level where Thiem’s most of the career success have come at. The world #8 has won nine tour titles so far in his career with seven of them coming in ATP 250 events.
Dominic Thiem has entered two ATP 250 events so far this season and made at least the semifinals in both of them, at Doha (SF, retired) and Buenos Aires (W).
Roberto Carballes Baena played out a tough and grueling first-round match against Laslo Djere that lasted over three hours, 7-6 6-7 6-3. It was a much-needed win for the Spaniard considering he lost his previous two matches against Stefanos Tsitsipas in Estoril and Mikhail Kukushkin in Madrid.
Only twice this season, Roberto Carballes Baena has managed to win back-to-back matches on tour, at Estoril and Quito, where he lifted the maiden tour title of his career by defeating Alberto Ramos Vinolas in the final.
Dominic Thiem will start as the overwhelming favorite in the pair’s first-ever meeting and rightly so. However, the Austrian is prone to having too many off days in the early rounds which should give a glimmer of hope for Roberto Carballes Baena.

Tennis Prediction: Dominic Thiem 2-0 SET
Odds: 1.60
