Dominic Thiem vs Yuichi Sugita Tennis Prediction

Dominic Thiem had to save multiple set points in the first set and was made to work hard by the veteran Russian, Mikhail Youzhny, in the first round, 7-6 6-2. It was the Austrian’s first match on grass since losing to Tomas Berdych in the round of 16 at Wimbledon 2017.
World #7 Dominic Thiem’s best result in this tournament was reaching the semifinal once in 2016 (total appearances- 3). In 2017, he defeated Maximilian Marterer in the first round but lost to Robin Haase in the round of 16.
The Austrian #1 has never felt comfortable on grass throughout his career, despite winning a title at ATP Stuttgart in 2016. Last season, he entered three grass tournaments and posted disappointing results such as second round at Halle (lost to Robin Haase), second round (R1 bye) at Antalya (lost to Ramkumar Ramanathan) and the round of 16 at Wimbledon (lost to Tomas Berdych).
Yuichi Sugita scored a confidence-boosting three-set win over Maximilian Marterer to avoid a second consecutive first-round exit from Halle (R1 exit in 2017). He has appeared here thrice in the past but hasn’t managed to progress beyond the round of 16.
Sugita recently snapped his ten-match losing run by defeating Nikoloz Basilashvili in the first round of ATP Hertogenbosch last week but lost to Marius Copil in the second round. Moreover, he has entered 17 tournaments so far in 2018 and only once he has managed to win back-to-back matches, against Ilya Ivashka and Jan Lennard Struff in Dubai.
Despite being in a terrible form at the moment, Yuchi Sugita must be fairly confident going into this match, considering he did extremely well on grass in 2017 by winning 12 matches (12/4) and two titles, at Surbiton Challenger and ATP Antalya.
Thiem scored a dominant win over Sugita when they met once in the quarterfinal of ATP Barcelona in 2017 (clay). However, playing on grass, Sugita can put up a better show this time around.

Tennis Prediction: Dominic Thiem 2-0 SET
Odds: 1.88
