Both these players are extremely talented, have made an excellent start to the new season and are mentally fragile. Though the Italian leads the H2H 2-1, there isn’t much between these two, and this should be a cracking contest.

Fabio Fognini News

Defending Champions France are just one win away from reaching the Davis Cup semifinal for the third consecutive season.
Pierre Hughes Herbert and Nicolas Mahut registered their fifth straight doubles win in the Davis Cup to turn the tie in favor of the visitors. The French pair defeated Fabio Fognini and Simone Bolelli in straight sets, 6-4 6-3 6-2, on Saturday.
It was yet another typical Fognini performance as he fought back from a set and break down against Jeremy Chardy in the second rubber to level the tie for Italy (1-1), 7-6 6-2 6-2 6-3.
The mercurial Italian was instrumental in securing Italy’s progression to the quarterfinal by winning both of his singles rubbers (won doubles rubber as well) against Japan in February 2018.
The last time Italy made the Davis Cup semifinal was in 2014. Italy (hosts) were down 1-2 going into the final day of their quarterfinal clash against Great Britain in 2014 and Fognini set the tone with a top-notch performance against Andy Murray (6-3 6-3 6-4) in the fourth rubber before Andreas Seppi sealed the tie against James Ward.

Lucas Pouille News

Lucas Pouille registered only his fifth win in this competition to give France an early lead in the quarterfinal. It was the Frenchman’s first Davis Cup match since winning the title decider against Belgium’s Steve Darcis in 2017.
Pouille was comfortably cruising at one stage before Andreas Seppi mounted a comeback and forced a decider, 6-3 6-2 4-6 3-6 6-1, in the first rubber on Friday.
Lucas Pouille has represented France in the Davis Cup every year since 2016, but he has never managed to win two straight matches (DC) in a season (or tie).
