Garcia Lopez registered 42 match wins in 2017, the last time he won more matches in a season was way back in 2004 (47).
This is Garcia Lopez’s third consecutive appearance at Marrakech. After reaching the quarterfinal on his debut appearance in 2016, the former World #23 suffered a first-round exit at the hands of Paolo Lorenzi here in 2017.

Calvin Hemery had to beat a Spanish veteran, Tommy Robredo, and Egor Gerasimov to make only his third tour-level main draw appearance of the season.
The Frenchman’s previous two first-round matches on tour ended in the same scoreline, 1-6 2-6, against Ruben Bemelmans (Montpellier) and Thanasi Kokkinakis (Miami).
Calvin Hemery had his breakthrough season in 2015 when he won 49 matches (49/26) and one title (ITF Italy, Clay), but the 23-year-old Frenchman could not perform at the same level in the following season (2016) as he faced some fitness issues (right adductor).
Clay has been the most productive surface for Hemery (94/56), with three of his four career titles (ITF x 3 and Challenger x 1) coming at the clay court events.
