Pablo Carreno Busta News

Pablo Carreno Busta produced his best performance in a long time to defeat Denis Istomin (recovering from injury) to progress into the third round, 6-1 6-0. He lost just seven points on his serve in the entire match that concluded in 47 minutes.
This is the Spaniard’s best result in this tournament as he could not win a match here at the Miami Open in his previous four appearances, in 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017.
Pablo Carreno Busta failed to defend his semifinal points at the Indian Wells (2018- R16) earlier this month but a few more wins at Miami this fortnight will earn him valuable ranking points as he’s got nothing to defend here (2017- R2).

Steve Johnson News

Steve Johnson is yet to lose a set this week having won his previous two matches in the same scoreline, 6-3 6-3, against Victor Estrella Burgos (R1) and Adrian Mannarino (R2).
This is only the second time Steve Johnson has managed to win back to back matches in a tour event this season. He previously registered three straight-set wins in the Delray Beach before losing the semifinal to Peter Gojowczyk.
The American lost his only previous third round match at the Miami Open to Tomas Berdych in 2016 (total appearances- 5)
Despite making a poor start to the season, Steve Johnson has done well in the recent weeks by progressing to the semifinal at Irving Challenger and Delray Beach. These results also helped him to take his season W/L tally to the positive territory – 9/8.
Steve Johnson fought back from a set down to win their only previous meeting at Auckland in 2015. Neither of them is playing their best tennis at the moment, and this third round clash could go either way.
