In this first meeting between the World #34 and 617, Ouahab can offer a serious challenge to Kohlschreiber, considering the circumstances (playing at home, and Kohlschreiber must be tired physically and mentally). The Moroccan, who was struggling with some fitness issues in the recent few months, has got the ability to do well on this surface, provided he is not carrying an injury.

Philip Kohlschreiber News

Philip Kohlschreiber returns to Marrakech in an attempt to go one step further this time. He defeated the likes of Jeremy Chardy, Jan Lennard Struff, and Benoit Paire before losing to Borna Coric in the final here in 2017.
The German suffered a heartbreaking defeat in the fifth and deciding rubber against Spain (vs. David Ferrer) in the Davis Cup World Group quarterfinal on Sunday. The match lasted nearly five hours, and the visitors (Germany) were leading the tie 2-1 at the end of Saturday’s play.
After such a physically and mentally hurting defeat, it will be interesting to see if Kohlschreiber is able to make a quick recovery from it.
Apart from reaching the quarterfinal at the Indian Wells, Kohlschreiber has failed to win back-to-back matches in the five other tournaments that he entered so far in 2018, which includes three first-round exits as well.

Lamine Ouahab News

Lamine Ouahab is given a wildcard into the main draw of his home tournament for the second time in three years. He will now make his second appearance in Marrakech after facing a first-round exit at the hands of Facundo Bagnis in 2016, 6-7 2-6.
Ouahab has won 630 matches so far in his career (630/293), with more than 500 of them coming on the clay courts (the majority of them in clay ITF’s).
The 33-year-old Moroccan is one of the most successful players on the ITF Pro Circuits, and no player has won more titles on the ITF Pro Circuits than Lamine Ouahab himself (29), followed by Riccardo Bellotti and Attila Balazs (28 each).
Apart from 29 ITF titles, he has also won three Challenger titles. Overall, 31 of his 32 career titles have come on the clay court events.
