Kyle Edmund vs Joao Sousa Tennis Prediction

Joao Sousa won their recent meeting at Cincinnati in 2017, but Kyle Edmund won their only clay meeting in Rome 2017. Though Edmund is ranked nearly 40 places higher than Sousa, the Portuguese is very much capable of beating Edmund on clay and playing at home is also an additional advantage for him.

Joao Sousa News

After recovering from a *3-5 deficit in the first set of his first-round encounter against Daniil Medvedev, 7-6 7-5, Joao Sousa had to fight back from a set and break down against compatriot Pedro Sousa in the second round, 4-6 7-6 7-5.
Sousa, who could not register a win in his previous three appearances here at Estoril, has now posted his best result in this tournament (QF and still active)
This is only his second quarterfinal of the season, and he won the previous one against Nikoloz Basilashvili at ATP Marrakech a few weeks back.
Five of Sousa’s last six quarterfinal appearances have come at clay tournaments (ATP Antwerp 2017 on indoor hard), and his record at this stage stands at 3/2 (on clay).

Kyle Edmund News

Third seed Kyle Edmund faced a tricky opening-round test as he was drawn against Alex De Minaur but the British #1 secured a comfortable straight set win, 6-2 7-5.
A couple of weeks back at Marrakech, Kyle Edmund came ever so close to winning his maiden tour title but failed in the final test against the resurgent Pablo Andujar. With the top seed Anderson out of contention and the draw not being too intimidating, he will see this as yet another good opportunity to get his hands on the trophy.
Though Edmund has faced a few fitness issues in the recent months, he has made an excellent start to the season by reaching the quarterfinal at Brisbane, semifinal at the Australian Open and finishing as the runner-up at Marrakech.
Like Joao Sousa, Kyle Edmund has recorded his best Estoril result this week, as he failed in the second round (R16) here in 2016 and the first round in 2017.
