Marin Cilic edges past Vasek Pospisil in two close sets to reach the round of 16. It was his second straight-sets win of the week with three of the four sets ending at 7-5 or 7-6 (against Vasek Pospisil and Pierre Hughes Herbert).
This will be the Croatian’s first round of 16 appearance in Miami since 2013 when he defeated Jo Wilfried Tsonga in straight sets (R16) before losing to Andy Murray in the quarterfinal.
Cilic, who reached his career-high ranking of #3 a few weeks back, aims to move further in the rankings, which looks very much possible considering the form of fab four. ‘I want to push myself to be improving and getting better, and obviously, that means getting higher in the rankings’ – said Marin Cilic, earlier this week.

John Isner registered back-to-back wins for the first time this season when he defeated Mikhail Youzhny in the third round, 6-4 6-3. Though he secured a straight set win, Youzhny created three break point chances on the American’s serve and even managed to break once, which is something Isner will be looking to improve as he cannot afford to lose his serve against better players.
The big-serving American lost two of his previous three round of 16 matches in Miami but won the recent one against Milos Raonic (three sets) in 2015.
John Isner’s most recent round of 16 match in a Masters 1000 event came against a top 10 player in Paris Masters 2017 where he defeated Grigor Dimitrov (then #8) in a tight three-setter.
