Milos Raonic vs Marin Cilic Tennis Prediction

Marin Cilic leads the H2H 2-1 including winning their recent and only clay meeting in the Istanbul title decider last season. Though clay is the least preferred surface for both of these big serving players, Cilic has got a marginally better game than Raonic for this surface, and he will start as the favorite.
Considering the way Raonic and Cilic serve, they would probably need a tiebreaker to settle the set.

Milos Raonic News

After surviving a three-set match against the local wildcard, Lucas Catarina, in the first round, Milos Raonic went through another difficult match against Marco Cecchinato on Wednesday. The first set was pretty close as the Italian had a 5-3 lead in the tiebreaker but could not take his chances, 6-7 2-6.
One more win on Thursday will give Raonic his third consecutive quarterfinal appearance of the season. Coming back from the injury, he made a poor start to the season by facing early exits at Brisbane, Australian Open, and Delray Beach but has done well in the recent weeks by progressing to the semifinal at the Indian Wells and quarterfinal in Miami.
Moreover, the Canadian has made the quarterfinal in his recent three appearances at the Monte Carlo Masters, in 2016, 2015 and 2014.

Marin Cilic News

Marin Cilic was fortunate to escape with a straight-set win over Fernando Verdasco in the first round. He converted all three break points and saved six of the eight break point chances on his own serve. The Spaniard even had the chance to serve for the second set at 5-3, but he gave it away cheaply, 3-6 6-7.
The #2 seed Marin Cilic could win only one match in his only previous clay tournament of the season, at Rio de Janeiro (lost to Monfils), and he will be hoping to do better at Monte Carlo this week.
Cilic made the quarterfinal of the Monte Carlo Masters in his recent two visits in 2015 and 2017, which is also his best result in this tournament.
Since finishing as the runner-up at the Australian Open 2018, Marin Cilic has entered three tournaments but has failed to progress beyond the round of 16 in any of them, at Rio de Janeiro (R16), Indian Wells (R3) and Miami (R16).
