Rafael Nadal vs Guido Pella Tennis Prediction

Ten-time French Open champion Rafael Nadal was lucky to escape with a straight set win against the lucky loser Simone Bolelli as the Spaniard trailed the second set 1-3, once again trailed the third set 1-3 and saved multiple set points in the tiebreaker before sealing the win, 6-4 6-3 7-6. However, it’s not the first time Nadal has made such comebacks from losing positions, especially on clay.
Rafael Nadal, who has won the French Open title ten times from his previous 13 appearances, has never lost a second-round match in this tournament. The earliest exit he suffered here was a third-round defeat (via retirement) against Marcel Granollers Pujol in 2016.
The world #1 started the clay season in a dominant form but has been a bit shaky in the recent weeks. His 21-match winning streak on clay was ended by Dominic Thiem (Madrid), dropped a set against Fabio Fognini (led by a set, Rome) and Alexander Zverev (Rome) and he wasn’t entirely convincing against Simone Bolelli (French Open).
Rafael Nadal recently won his 11th title at Monte Carlo and Barcelona, and he will be hoping to lift his 11th French Open title this fortnight. Additionally, he won the Rome Masters title as well.
Guido Pella avoided his second consecutive first-round exit from the French Open by making easy work of the Portuguese #1 and Estoril Champion Joao Sousa in straight sets, 6-2 6-3 6-4.
The Argentinian has made the second round of the French Open twice in the past but failed on both occasions, against Gilles Simon in 2016 and Novak Djokovic in 2013.
They met once on the hard courts of Indian Wells last season when Rafael Nadal raced to a comfortable straight set win. Guido Pella is a proper clay court player, and he should be able to offer a similar challenge to what Bolelli provided in the first round, but the defending champion should be able to see this through.
