For today we have a very intersting match for online betting: Nikoloz Basilashvili vs Joao Sousa at ATP – SINGLES: Marrakech (Morocco), clay.
Joao Sousa is the clear favorite in his first ever meeting with Nikoloz Basilashvili, and the Georgian must be in his perfect condition to stand a chance against the resurgent Portuguese.
Nikoloz Basilashvili News
Nikoloz Basilashvili registered his first back-to-back wins since the Australian Open 2018 when he defeated the local favorite and wildcard, Lamine Ouahab, in the second round of ATP Marrakech on Thursday, 7-6 5-7 6-3.
The Georgian, who retired twice in the consecutive matches at Acapulco and Indian Wells earlier in the season, needed some medical attention during the deciding set of his second round match against Ouahab and it is to be seen if he is in his perfect condition to compete against Joao Sousa on Friday,
This is Basilashvili’s first quarterfinal appearance on tour since reaching the semifinal in Metz 2017, where he defeated Denis Istomin in the quarterfinal before losing to Benoit Paire in the semifinal.
Joao Sousa News
Joao Sousa continued his recent good form with a three-set win over Mirza Basic, 6-3 3-6 6-4. It was the second unconvincing performance of the week from the Portuguese but was enough to seal the progression once again. He previously defeated Pedro Martinez Portero after exchanging nine breaks of serve in the match, 7-5 7-5.
The Portuguese has now won seven of his last eight matches, including his two wins in the Davis Cup over the Ymer Brothers. This is an incredible turnaround considering he failed to win consecutive matches in his opening six tournaments of the season.
Joao Sousa faced a second-round exit at the hands of Facundo Bagnis in his only previous appearance here at Marrakech (2016), making this his best result in this event.
The former World #28 made six quarterfinal appearances on tour in 2017 with four of them coming on the clay court tournaments, in Kitzbuhel (W), Gstaad (L), Sao Paulo (W), and Buenos Aires (L).
