Rebecca Peterson vs Su-Wei Hsieh Tennis Prediction

Su-Wei Hsieh is certainly having the best clay season of her career. In 2018, she has reached a clay WTA semifinal (Rabat, l. Mertens) and has posted six main draw wins on the dirt, both unprecedented for her. Last week, she reached the Strasbourg quarterfinal by defeating former French Open finalist Lucie Safarova.
Hsieh debuted at the French Open back in 2002, but it is only in the last two years has she been able to secure main draw wins. In 2016, she defeated Lara Arruabarrena (l. Kvitova), while the following year, she got the better of #8 Johanna Konta in the second round.
Rebecca Peterson, the 22-year-old Swede, has debuted into the top 100 after winning the ITF $100k Cagnes-Sur-Mer (France, clay) this month, defeating Dayana Yastremska in the final. The Swede’s cause was helped by her first WTA semifinal run at Acapulco this March, where she defeated Puig, Cornet, and Zhang.
Last year at the US Open, Peterson made it through the qualifying round to get her career’s first slam main draw spot (l. Allertova in the first round). This week, she repeated that feat in the qualifying stages of the French Open, dropping just one set to Ysaline Bonaventure.
This will be Hsieh’s first encounter with the Swede. The Taiwanese heads into this clash as the slight favorite as Peterson has a 3-10 record against top 50 players. It is to be seen if the 22-year-old can overpower Hsieh’s tricky game-style or succumbs to it.

Tennis Prediction: Su-Wei Hsieh
Odds: 2.15
