Richard Gasquet vs Tomas Berdych Tennis Prediction

Tomas Berdych leads the H2H 10-7 including winning their recent three meetings. Neither of them is in their peak fitness condition at the moment, but Gasquet has produced better results in recent weeks which gives him a slight advantage going into this contest.

Tomas Berdych News

Entering his first clay tournament of the season at Monte Carlo a few weeks back, Tomas Berdych lost to Kei Nishikori in three sets, who was on a comeback trail at that time, 6-4 2-6 1-6.
The Czech #1’s performance has been pretty poor since pulling out of his quarterfinal match at ATP Rotterdam in February 2018. Though he reached the quarterfinals of ATP Marseille in the following week, he just had to defeat Damir Dzumhur (lacking fitness) and Stefano Travaglia (in three sets, was returning from South American clay swing).
Tomas Berdych will now make his 14th appearance at the Madrid Masters and finishing as the runner-up to Roger Federer in 2012 (played on blue clay) is his best result in this tournament. The last time he faced an opening round exit here was way back in 2007 when he lost to David Nalbandian.

Richard Gasquet News

Richard Gasquet ended his four-match losing run with two consecutive quarterfinal appearances on clay, at Marrakech (SF) and Monte Carlo (QF).
Despite retiring from his first-round match at Rotterdam and visibly struggling on the court in the following weeks at Dubai and Miami, the Frenchman continued to compete on tour and even played a tough grueling match against Alexander Zverev in the quarterfinal of Monte Carlo (6-4 2-6 5-7).
However, it did seem to have impacted his performance levels, as the former World #7 was upset by Lorenzo Sonego in his opening round match of ATP Budapest last week, 4-6 6-7.
Gasquet nearly had ten days break now, and hopefully, he should be ready to have a good week at Madrid, a place where he has underperformed all his career. In his previous eight appearances in this tournament, he never managed to progress beyond the round of 16.
