Roger Federer VS Tomas Berdych

Federer continues his path toward defence of the title that he won last season after victory over R. Nadal in the final. The Swiss plays excellently regardless of his senior age and it seems that will be able to handle much younger players for a long time. Hungarian M. Fuscovics felt that on his own skin in the round of 16 who managed to resist Federer for a bit more than two hours.

Given his low ranking it can be said that he put up a fairly strong resistance, especially in the second set which Federer won only after the tie-break. Federere also struggled in the first set to make a break but he succeeded although up to that point Fucsovics was totally equal opponent. After losing two sets the Hungarian didn’t have proper motive like in the beginning of match which allowed Federer to easier win the third, decisive set.
T. Berdych

After return on tennis courts Berdych continued with good results. After he eliminated J.M. Del Potro without dropping a set he did the same to Italian F. Fognini in match that lasted a bit more than two hours. Fognini won just nine games in it, which was far below expectations. Not everything was negative for Fognini who had good moments in which he was a better player on the court but those moments didn’t last long enough to change the final outcome.

Good example of that was the first set in which both players had chances to make breaks but the difference was that Berydch materialised both his while Fognini failed to do so. It was interesting that the Italian had much better 1st serve 57%-47% but Berdych far more often won points after 1st serve 76%-49%. Number of directly won points was the same 37-37 but Fognini made far more unforced errors 32-20.

Roger Federer VS Tomas Berdych: Tennis Picks

This will be the 26th match between the two players. Federer was far more successful so far and he won 19 times, while Berdyc had an upper hand just six times. The two players met the last time at Wimbledon last season and the Swiss won 7-6, 7-6, 6-4. This is the first true test for Federer at the Australian Open where he hadn’t faced a serious opponent so far. Berdych could put up a decent resistance but low percentage of the 1st serve is not a good omen. If he doesn’t correct that against Federer he is going to be punished for sure.
