Cornet should be able to secure a win over the 20-year-old opponent she’s meeting for the first time. Although, her last defeat to a wildcard came only a month ago at Indian Wells, against the 18-year-old Sofya Zhuk.

Alize Cornet News

Alize Cornet began the clay season with her first Premier quarterfinal of 2018, at Charleston. She registered her 16th top 10 win by upsetting compatriot Garcia before battling with the eventual champion, Kiki Bertens (lost 6-2 7-5).
It was also Cornet’s first clay quarterfinal since May 2013 (lost to Bouchard in Strasbourg semifinal) and her first back-to-back wins since January (third round at Australian Open, def. #12 Goerges).
Cornet has suffered three first-round losses this season, one of which came against #139 Rebecca Peterson (worst loss since May 2016, to #184 Kudryavtseva).

Jil Teichmann News

Jil Teichmann, the Swiss wildcard, won her third tour-level main draw match, a few weeks ago at Acapulco, where she defeated #113, Jana Fett. The previous two wins were against #87 Nara (2016 Strasbourg) and #44 Stosur (2017 Wuhan).
Teichmann’s win over Stosur was her first against a top 50 player. She has a total of four top 100 wins. All of Teichmann’s five ITF titles have come on clay. In 2017, she went 18-7 on ITF clay matches, compared to 3-2 on hard.
The world #136 started her clay season at Charleston as well but in the qualifying rounds. She lost to #219 Fanny Stollar in a match which lasted nearly two and a half hours after wasting two match points.
