Dominic Thiem vs Alexander Zverev Tennis Prediction

Chapter seven of this rivalry between two good friends takes place in Paris on Tuesday. Dominic Thiem and Alexander Zverev were forming a rivalry in 2016 as they met four times in the space of seven months (once in the French Open), but this will only be their second meeting in the last 14 months.
Getting away with the win on a bad day or while not playing the best tennis is the mark of a champion, and Alexander Zverev had done it for the third time this fortnight when he recovered from the losing position against Karen Khachanov in the round of 16, 4-6 7-6 2-6 6-3 6-3.
Alexander Zverev became the first player since Tommy Robredo in 2013 to win three consecutive five-setters in the French Open. The Spaniard needed five sets to win his second round, third round and the round of 16 matches but lost to compatriot and fourth seed David Ferrer in the quarterfinal (straight sets).
The German #1, who has now posted his career-best result in a grand slam this fortnight (QF at the French Open), has delivered exceptional results on clay this season. He defended his title at Munich, won his third Masters title at Madrid, finished as the runner-up at Rome (three service games away from upsetting Rafael Nadal) and made the semifinal at Monte Carlo.
“I’m very happy about being in the quarter-finals here with going the hard way, going the long distance every single time and showing myself, showing everybody that I can play for as long as I need to,” said Zverev, ahead of the quarterfinal.
Apart from losing the third set, Dominic Thiem was utterly dominant against the former world #4 Kei Nishikori in his round of 16 match, 6-2 6-0 5-7 6-4. This win extends the Austrian’s winning run to eight, which also includes a title at ATP Lyon last week.
Unlike Alexander Zverev, Dominic Thiem has been to the quarterfinals of the French Open twice in the past and managed to win both of those matches, against David Goffin in 2016 and Novak Djokovic in 2017. He has never made the quarterfinals at any other grand slams.
“I really like best of five, doesn’t matter against who. If it’s against Sascha or anybody else”- Dominic Thiem on facing Alexander Zverev in the quarterfinal.
Alexander Zverev scored his first win over Dominic Thiem on clay (1-3) in the Madrid Masters last month which ended the Austrian’s hopes of lifting his Maiden Masters title (Thiem leads H2H 4-2). Dominic Thiem is the better player on clay, but Alexander Zverev is mentally superior and will not go down easily. Expect this to be a cracking match between the season leaders in match wins (AZ- 34, DT- 33).
