This will be one of the issues of the next edition of the London tennis tournament, in July. A few weeks after Roland Garros, this third Grand Slam tournament will also be an opportunity to measure the ability of players to take power in the coming years. Last year, it was rather the “old” who made the law since Federer (36) won in the final against Cilic (29), while Berdych (32) and Querrey (29)  reached the semifinals. On the other hand, Alexander Zverev (20), Grigor Dimitrov (26) and Dominic Thiem (24) disappeared in the knockout stages. In the women’s draw, Spain’s Garbine Mugurza defends her title after winning the final in July against Venus Williams.

Wimbledon Schedule 2018

The dates and the schedule of Wimbledon adapt to those of French Open. The competition runs from Monday, July 2 to Sunday, July 15, 2018, in order to give contenders three weeks to adapt to the London grass. This decision was taken in particular to strengthen the interest in the show offered to the public, allowing players to express themselves at their best. In addition, the qualifying tournament, which allows the modestly ranked players to reach the final schedule, will take place from 27 to 30 June 2018.

Before Wimbledon, the ATP calendar includes several grass tournaments (Stuttgart, ‘s-Hertogenbosch, Hall, Queen’s, Eastbourne …) allowing everyone to adapt to the grass, a specific very fast surface. The English tournament is the third round of the Grand Slam of the year, after the Australian Open in January, Roland Garros, covering the months of May and June, and before the US Open, which takes place at the beginning of September.

2018 Wimbledon Program

As in the other Grand Slam tournaments, several competitions are scheduled at Wimbledon. In addition to men’s singles and ladies ‘singles, the men’s doubles, ladies’ doubles, mixed doubles, junior girls and boys’ tournaments and wheelchair tennis tournaments also take place. A Legends Trophy, reserved for former players, is also on the menu with three different categories (men under 45, men over 45 and ladies). The matches are held at the 19 courts of the All England Lawn Tennis Club.
One of the peculiarities of the London tournament is the “Sunday Off”: under an agreement with the residents of the area, no match is played on the first Sunday, except in the event of a big delay in the program, such as it was the case for the rainy editions of 2004 and 2016. As a result, the Monday program of the second week is particularly busy since all round of 16 is played that day. We are talking about “Crazy Monday”. In contrast, the men’s final is played well on Sunday (July 15 this year).

Wimbledon Ticket Office 2018

To attend Wimbledon matches in 2018, visit the tournament’s official ticketing site. Attention, a reservation does not necessarily give the right to a ticket. Since 1924, the tickets have been awarded by lottery, during the famous “Public Ballot”, a kind of big lottery that allows designating the holders of precious seats. If you do not succeed in this way, rest assured, the organisation keeps a large stock of tickets, which are sold daily on the basis of one per person queuing. Every day, 1,500 seats are awarded on all courts, including the central court. To obtain them, however, it is necessary to be armed with patience. Each year, hundreds of people even camp on the spot, sometimes several days in advance, to ensure a position in the queue. Regarding the price level, know that the rates for a day at Wimbledon range from 40 pounds (about 50 euros), the lowest price to 175 pounds (about 220 euros), the cost of a seat for the final on the central court.

Results for Wimbledon 2017

In 2017, the Wimbledon tournament was particularly expected. Roger Federer, winner of the Australian Open, and Rafael Nadal, victorious at Roland Garros, were they going to take advantage of their momentum and embark on a new race for world number 1 title? Novak Djokovic, not at his best for several months, was he going to be back to the highest level? Andy Murray, disappointing since the start of the season, could he afford to keep his title? Results of the encounters: a knockout in the round of 16 for Nadal, a quarterfinal loss for Murray, an abandonment at the same stage for Djokovic … and the eighth success for Federer, who defeated Cilic in the final (6-3, 6- 1, 6-4).

Wimbledon 2018 – Schedule of Play

The full schedule of this Wimbledon 2018 will be disclosed as usual three days before the start of the tournament, during the draw. In each schedule (men and women), 32 of the 128 entries are designated top seeds and therefore can not compete in the first round. In addition, the schedule is established so that the players seeded 1 to 8 cannot meet before the round of 16. To establish the list of players invited to participate in the tournament, the organisers rely on the ATP ranking but also reserve the right to grant wild-cards. To win Wimbledon, you have to win a total of seven games (1st round, 2nd round, 3rd round, the round of 16, quarter-final, semifinal and final).
