Tennis Pick Today

Our tennis pick for today is Laura Siegemund vs Natalia Vikhlyantseva at WTA – SINGLES: Charleston (USA), clay.
This will be the first meeting between these two players. Despite coming back from the long injury break, Siegemund remains a deadly clay-court player. The German’s general fitness remains a question mark as she played at Pula with knee wrapped up and visibly struggled during the latter stages of her quarter-final defeat against Honcova (took an MTO as well).

Laura Siegemund News

Laura Siegemund is back on tour after suffering a painful fall at Nuremberg (2017) which ruptured her ACL (anterior cruciate ligament), considered a career-ending injury. She needed surgery and extensive rehab for the rest of the 2017 season.
She played her first competitive tournament of the season at Pula, a $25,000 ITF in Italy. She secured two straight sets wins and took a set off Honcova in the quarterfinal (6-0), before losing out in three sets.
Siegemund posted excellent results on clay last year (before the injury). She reached the semifinal of this tournament (def. Venus Williams, Safarova, and Sevastova) and won her second WTA title at Stuttgart (def. Kuznetsova, Halep, Pliskova, and Mladenovic).

Natalia Vikhlyantseva News

Natalia Vikhlyantseva had not won a main draw match in the season before arriving at America to play the Sunshine doubles. She secured a couple of first-round wins at Indian Wells and Miami, defeating Zvonareva and Rebecca Peterson, respectively.
The 21-year-old Russian, debuting at Charleston, doesn’t have the best record on tour-level clay tournaments. After reaching the second round of Prague last year (as a qualifier), Vikhlyantseva is on a six-match losing streak on this surface.
However, Vikhlyantseva has reached three clay finals on the ITF circuit, one in every season during the period between 2014-2016.
