For today we have: Ashleigh Barty vs Claire Liu at WTA – SINGLES: Miami (USA), hard.

Ashleigh Barty News

Ashleigh Barty is yet to win a match outside Australia this season. She lost the opening round match at the Indian Wells to Greece’s Maria Sakkari, 6-4 6-2.
The loss to #59 Sakkari was Barty’s second defeat of the season to a player ranked outside the Top 50, after losing to #72 Naomi Osaka in the third round of the Australian Open.
Barty started the year with a Premier-level final at Sydney International, defeating Strycova and Gavrilova in the later rounds. She was defeated by Angelique Kerber in the final. Barty has reached four WTA finals in the last 12 months, losing the last three.
Barty made her debut at the Miami Open last year. She defeated Eugenie Bouchard in the first round but lost to Sam Stosur (from whom she snatched the Aussie #1 position later in the year) in the second round.

Claire Liu News

Claire Liu has won a match at a WTA tournament for the first time in her young career, by defeating a fellow American wildcard, #623 Whitney Osuigwe (6-3 6-1).
Last year, Osuigwe had defeated Liu in the Roland Garros Junior final (Liu won the 2017 Wimbledon Junior). Liu won two $25,000 ITF titles in 2017, at Naples (USA) and Caserta (Italy).
Barty, the world #20, is an overwhelming favorite to dismiss the teenager. This will be Liu’s first encounter with a Top 20 player, while Barty’s previous defeat against a player ranked outside #200 came at Acapulco in 2014 when Barty herself was ranked outside the Top 150.
