Despite suffering early losses at major tournaments, the season has been positive for Babos as she won her third career title at Taiwan. This comes as a relief for Babos after losing the last two finals to lesser fancied opponents, Bondarenko and Van Uytvanck.
Babos achieved her best Premier Mandatory result here at Miami in 2016. She defeated Karolina Pliskova and Naomi Osaka to reach the round of 16, where she took a set off Kerber before bowing out.

At the Indian Wells, Mona Barthel prevented herself from losing yet another first-round match, by defeating Veronica Cepede Royg in a surprising straight-set match, 6-2 6-1.
In fact, for the first time since Eastbourne last year, Barthel won back to back matches in a tournament when she defeated Kozlova and Babos (next opponent) in the indoor courts of Budapest earlier this season. That is a wait of 16 tournaments.
Barthel has got a poor record at the Miami Open. She reached the third round in 2012, the year she debuted in the tournament. Since that run, she is yet to win a main draw match here.
