Bautista vs Coric Tennis Prediction
Roberto Bautista Agut avoided his second consecutive quarterfinal exit from ATP Halle by scoring a hard-fought three-set win over Karen Khachanov. The Spaniard trailed the deciding set by a break (*0-2) but managed to pull it off in the end, 6-3 6-7 6-3.
Doing so, Bautista Agut became only the second Spaniard ever to reach the semifinal of ATP Halle in the tournament’s 26-year history. Former world #1 Carlos Moya did it in 1999, but he lost his semifinal match to Niclas Kulti (Sweden) in straight sets.
Former world #13 Bautista Agut, who won both of his previous semifinal matches in 2018 (Auckland and Dubai), won his only previous semifinal match on grass, against Jurgen Melzer at ATP Hertogenbosch in 2014.
“I tried to stay there until the last point, to make him play a lot and try to give everything on the court,” – Roberto Bautista Agut after making Spanish history on Friday.
Borna Coric continues to impress at Halle this week by scoring a comfortable straight set win over the former finalist (2015) Andreas Seppi. Earlier this week, he scored dominant straight-set wins against Alexander Zverev (R1) and Nikoloz Basilashvili (R16).
This is the Croatian youngster’s career-best result in a grass tournament as he has never progressed beyond the round of 16 in any grass tournaments in the past. In fact, he could win only three matches on grass (3/11) before entering ATP Halle this week but has managed to double the tally with three wins this week.
Nevertheless, Borna Coric is having an impressive season in 2018 by winning 22 matches from the possible 32 (22/10), which includes a semifinal appearance at Indian Wells (lost to Roger Federer) and three quarterfinal appearances at Doha, Dubai, and Miami.
Roberto Bautista Agut leads the H2H 4-2, but in 2018, it’s tied at 1-1 (Dubai and Indian Wells). There isn’t much between them on grass which makes this an even contest, unlike their previous two encounters, where the Spaniard was favored to win.
