Juan Martin Del Potro fought back from a set down against Milos Raonic to progress into the Miami semifinal only for the second time in his career. Earlier this week, he fought back from a *1-4 deficit in the first set to win the match in straight sets against Filip Krajinovic (R16).
The Argentinian is currently on a 15-match winning run, which includes two titles at Acapulco and Indian Wells. He is just two wins away from equalling Roger Federer’s 17-match winning streak, which is the best on tour so far this season (17-match run was stopped by Del Potro in IW).
Since the 2017 Cincinnati Masters (fully recovered from injury and hit the top gear), Juan Martin Del Potro has played 49 matches and managed to win 41 of them (41/8). During this run, he won the title at Stockholm, Acapulco and Indian Wells, finished as the runner-up at Basel and Auckland, and also made the semifinal at the US Open.
Goran Ivanisevic (Raonic’s coach) wasn’t happy with Del Potro’s behavior during his quarterfinal win over Milos Raonic, “Del Potro is acting like he is injured. Walking slowly. He is a master on doing that. Did that at Indian Wells as well against Milos”.
The World #6’s previous and only semifinal in Miami ended in a three sets defeat against Andy Murray in 2009. However, he now has the chance of winning the Sunshine Double for the first time in his career, and additionally, two more wins in Miami will hand him a third consecutive title (won Acapulco and Indian Wells earlier), something he hasn’t done before.
John Isner Tennis Prediction
John Isner produced his best performance in a long time when he dispatched Hyeon Chung in straight sets, 6-1 6-4. The American was particularly impressive on the return games as he broke the Korean’s serve thrice in the match (Chung did not lose his serve in the first three matches).
This will be John Isner’s 11th Masters 1000 semifinal, and just the second in Miami, he lost his previous Miami semifinal to Novak Djokovic in 2015. His overall record in Masters semifinal stands at 3/7, with the most recent success coming against Marin Cilic in Paris 2016.
John Isner, who could not win back to back matches in any tournaments (6) until Miami, said, “This is actually the best I’ve moved all year. That’s not working harder, or training harder off the court; that’s just from me being more confident on the court.”
