Dominic Thiem vs Gilles Simon Tennis Prediction

Dominic Thiem leads the H2H 6-2 including winning their recent five matches but their H2H on clay is tied at 1-1. Thiem is the better player at the moment, especially on clay, but Simon, playing to the best of his ability, is capable of extracting unforced errors and make life difficult for the world #8.

Dominic Thiem News

Dominic Thiem finished the third and deciding set of his quarterfinal match against Guillermo Garcia Lopez (6-7 7-6 6-4) on Friday and returned to the court in two hours time to play yet another three-setter against Dusan Lajovic to seal his place in the finals of ATP Lyon, 6-4 5-7 6-4.
The Austrian #1, who is bidding to win the tenth tour title of his career, failed to win the first Masters 1000 title of his career when he lost to Alexander Zverev in the final of Madrid Masters two weeks back.
However, Dominic Thiem made finals of one ATP 250 event earlier this season and managed to win it, against Aljaz Bedene in Buenos Aires. He does have an excellent record in ATP 250 series having won seven of his nine career titles at this level.
The last time Dominic Thiem made the finals of an ATP Tour event in France was at ATP Metz (ATP 250 series) in 2016 when he was defeated by the Frenchman, Lucas Pouille, in straight sets (takes on a Frenchman on Sunday).

Gilles Simon News

Gilles Simon scored a comfortable straight-set victory over Cameron Norrie in the semifinal of ATP Lyon, who defeated the second seed John Isner and was enjoying the best week of his career, 6-1 7-6.
The win against Norrie was the Frenchman’s third straight set win of the week having previously defeated Jordi Samper Montana and lucky loser Joris De Loore in the similar fashion. However, in the quarterfinal, he had to fight back from a set down against the Kazakh #1 Mikhail Kukushkin, 4-6 6-4 7-6.
Former world #6 Gilles Simon made a positive start to the season by winning the title at ATP Pune (ATP 250 series) in the first week of January but he had to wait nearly five months (until ATP Lyon) to put together another good run on tour.
Simon has won 13 tour titles so far in his career with five of them coming on clay. Though he’s got an impressive record in the finals of clay tour events (5/1), he is yet to win a title on this surface since defeating Fabio Fognini in the final of ATP Bucharest 2012.
