This will be the first meeting between these two players. Though Chung is the better player and bigger prospect, Sousa is not an easy opponent to play against, especially when he is on the top of his game. Joao Sousa can give himself a decent chance to make his first quarterfinal at Miami if he can repeat the performance from his previous matches.

Joao Sousa News

Joao Sousa recovered from a set down (lost first set 1-6) to defeat Jared Donaldson in the third round match that lasted nearly two hours. He previously beat Ryan Harrison (R1) and David Goffin (R2) in straight sets.
The three set win against Jared Donaldson was Joao Sousa’s eighth three-setter of the season from 12 matches (best-of-three sets). His record in the deciding set stands at 4/4.
This is Sousa’s best result in Miami as he never managed to get beyond the third round in previous five appearances. In fact, his last and only previous round of 16 appearance in a Masters 1000 event came at Cincinnati in 2016, where he defeated Jack Sock in three sets.

Hyeon Chung Pick

Hyeon Chung secured a thumping 6-1 6-1 win over Michael Mmoh in his third round match. While the Korean got a first-round bye, the American had played four matches before facing Chung, including two three-setters, and Chung made the most of the circumstances by dispatching Mmoh in an hour and four minutes.
Chung is just one win away from reaching his sixth quarterfinal of the season. Apart from facing a second-round exit from ATP Brisbane (Kyle Edmund), he has made at least the quarterfinal in all other tournaments (5).
The Next Gen Champion has made to this stage of an ATP Masters 1000 event twice in his career, lost to Adrian Mannarino in Montreal 2017 but won the recent one against Pablo Cuevas in Indian Wells 2018.
