Big match for today on ATP Marrakech: Kyle Edmund vs Malek Jaziri.
Jaziri won their only previous meeting on the grass courts of Nottingham in 2015 (7-6 7-6). Kyle Edmund will not get too many better opportunities than this to win his maiden tour title as most of the seeds have already exited from Marrakech. That said, Malek Jaziri will have the backing of the crowd, and he’s certainly got the ability to make this a difficult match for the Brit.

Kyle Edmund News

Kyle Edmund kept his hopes of winning the maiden tour title alive with a straightforward win over Radu Albot in the second round, 6-2 6-4. Overall, the British #1 has spent just about one hour and 30 minutes on the court this week, as his first-round opponent was forced to retire during the first set (trailing 0-5).
This is Edmund’s third quarterfinal of the season, and first, since coming back from the short break he took after the Australian Open (for fitness issues). His previous two quarterfinal matches (in 2018) came against Grigor Dimitrov in Brisbane (L) and the Australian Open (W).
Though he has made a handful of quarterfinals at the clay Challenger events, this is his first on a clay ATP World Tour event.
Kyle Edmund made an excellent start to the season by winning seven of his opening nine matches, which also includes his career-best result in Grand Slams (SF at the AO 2018). This run was rewarded with a career-high ranking of #24 and helped him dispatch Andy Murray as the British #1.

Malek Jaziri News

After fighting back from a set down against Marton Fucsovics in the first round, Malek Jaziri managed to score a comfortable win over Mischa Zverev in straight sets, who doesn’t prefer playing on this surface.
Malek Jaziri, who failed to win consecutive matches in his opening six tournaments of the season, has now won 14 of his last 17 matches (on tour), which also includes a semifinal at Dubai, title at Quijing Challenger, and quarterfinal at Zhuhai Challenger and Shenzhen Challenger.
The Tunisian last made a clay quarterfinal on tour at Barcelona in 2016 where he lost to Benoit Paire in three sets, after defeating another Zverev (Alexander) in the second round.
