Matteo Berrettini vs Francis Tiafoe Tennis Prediction

Though Tiafoe has achieved a lot more on tour (comparatively) and ranked nearly 50 places above Berrettini, the Italian is very much capable of challenging the American, especially in home conditions.

Francis Tiafoe News

Francis Tiafoe had to fight back from a set and break down against Salvatore Caruso in the qualifying stages to book his main draw spot in Rome at the first time of asking.
The American youngster posted his best result in a clay tour-level event when he finished as the runner-up at Estoril two weeks back. Earlier this season, he won his maiden tour title at Delray beach, making this his career-best start to a season (18/10).
Before Rome Masters, Tiafoe entered two Masters 1000 events this season and posted mixed results by reaching the round of 16 in Miami and failing to win a match in Indian Wells.

Matteo Berrettini News

Matteo Berrettini is offered a wildcard into the main draw of Rome Masters for the second consecutive season. In 2017, he lost out to Fabio Foginini in three sets, but he will be hoping for a better result this week having drawn against a (relatively) comfortable first-round opponent.
However, the Italian is currently on a three-match losing run, and he is yet to win a match since securing his second career main draw win on tour, against Attila Balazs in Budapest (first win was against Viktor Troicki in Doha earlier this season).
This is Berrettini’s fifth appearance in an ATP Masters 1000 event (including Q and MD) with his only previous win coming against an American opponent, Denis Kudla in Indian Wells 2018 (QR1).
