Monfils – Marterer Tennis Prediction

Sixth seed Gael Monfils makes his third appearance at ATP Lyon this week and first since 2005 when he finished as the runner-up to Andy Roddick, 3-6 2-6.
Since returning from the back injury that he suffered at the Indian Wells two months back, the Frenchman has played four matches but lost three of them, with that only win coming against Nikoloz Basilashvili in Madrid.
The former world #6 Gael Monfils made a surprisingly consistent start to the 2018 season by winning the title at Doha and progressing to the quarterfinal of three consecutive tour events at Quito, Buenos Aires, and Rio de Janeiro.
Maximilian Marterer put an end to his recent poor run by progressing to the semifinal of ATP Munich three weeks back, where he lost to compatriot Philipp Kohlschreiber in straight sets.
It was the young German’s career-best result in a tour-level event with the previous best being a quarterfinal appearance in ATP Sofia earlier this season.
This will be the first meeting between these two players. Though Monfils is playing at home and is far more experienced at this level, his current form and fitness struggles give Marterer a decent chance in this contest.
