Rafael Nadal vs Maximilian Marterer Tennis Prediction

Rafael Nadal scored his 16th straight win against Richard Gasquet to move into R16 of the French Open for the second consecutive season. It was also his 20th win on clay this season from the possible 21 (20/1).
After making a shaky start to his 14th French Open campaign earlier this fortnight (vs. Simone Bolelli), the Spaniard looked utterly dominant in the following matches against Guido Pella (6-2 6-1 6-1) and Richard Gasquet (6-3 6-2 6-2).
World #1 Rafael Nadal is currently on an eight-match winning run which includes a title-winning run at the Rome Masters two weeks back. Last month in Madrid, his 21-match unbeaten streak on clay was ended by Dominic Thiem in the quarterfinal.
In his previous 13 appearances in Paris, only once Rafael Nadal lost a round of 16 match, against Robin Soderling in 2009. The ten-time French Open champion recently won his 11th title at Monte Carlo and Barcelona, and he will now be hoping to win his 11th title at the French Open.
Maximilian Marterer scored a thumping straight-set win over the lucky loser Jurgen Zopp to reach the round of 16 in Paris. Earlier this week, he scored two solid wins against Ryan Harrison and Denis Shapovalov.
The German has made only three grand slam main draw appearances so far in his career, and he has managed to progressively improve his record in all of them. Making his main draw debut at the US Open 2017, he lost the first round match to Donald Young, failed in the third round of the Australian Open 2018 to Tennys Sandgren, and is currently active in the round of 16 stage at the French Open. Looking at his next opponent, his career-best grand slam run would most probably end here.
This is turning out to be an incredible season for Maximilian Marterer, who could not win a main draw match on tour before 2018. Apart from the two impressive runs at the grand slams (R3 at AO and R16 at FO), he also made his maiden quarterfinal appearance at ATP Sofia and the maiden semifinal appearance at ATP Munich.
These two players have never met before and considering the opponent and playing conditions, this is probably the toughest test of the young German’s career. On the other side, expect this to be a comfortable matchup for Rafael Nadal, and he shouldn’t be having too much trouble in dispatching the 22-year-old Maximilian Marterer.
