Samantha Stosur vs Zarina Diyas Tennis Prediction

Former world #4 Samantha Stosur failed to defend points at Strasbourg (title) and French Open (fourth round) in the clay season and, as a result, fell out of the top 100 for the first time since July 2008. This ended her 513-week-long stay in the group.
The Australian has taken a wildcard into Nottingham to make her debut at the tournament. Grass has never been Stosur’s best surface. The former US Open champion has never reached a career final on this surface, with three semifinals at Eastbourne being her best result.
Zarina Diyas returns to Nottingham to make her second appearance at the event, having reached its second round in 2015 by defeating Francesca Schiavone (l. Vickery). Diyas made that debut as the second seed, ranked near her career best of #31.
The Kazakh posted a 9-3 grass season in 2017, which includes a $100k title at Manchester (d. Krunic) and a third round at the Wimbledon (l. Martic). In fact, Diyas’ best result at slams came at Wimbledon, back-to-back fourth-round appearances in 2014-15.
The pair met each other in the final of 2014 Japan Women’s Open (Tokyo) when the Australian edged past Diyas in close straight sets, 7-6 6-3. Diyas would go on to win that tournament three years down the line in 2017 as her first career title (d. Miyu Kato).
