Simona Halep managed to win the Grand Slam tournament at Wimbledon in 2019, but, before last year’s performance, the Romanian athlete suffered several surprising eliminations in the first rounds.
The WTA ranked the biggest surprises in the first week of the Wimbledon tournament since 1999, and two games lost by Simona Halep were included in the top.

The 44th position in the ranking of surprise eliminations also belongs to Simona Halep, due to the match with Hsieh Su-Wei, from the third round of the 2018 edition of Wimbledon. Halep was the world leader then but was defeated by the Taipei athlete, 48th place WTA two years ago, score 6-3, 4-6, 5-7.

The first position in the top of the biggest surprises of the last 21 years at Wimbledon belongs to the match between the main favorite, Jelena Dokic, and Martina Hingis, from 1999. Dokic, 16 years old at that time, 129th place WTA, defeated Hingis, winner of five career Grand Slam trophies without appeal, score 6-2, 6-0.
