Maria, being the more experienced of these two, will be the favorite for her first meeting with Seguel. However, the Chilean will be looking to bring her best on the court since she doesn’t get these opportunities too often.

Tatjana Maria News

Tatjana Maria starts her first Bogota campaign as the top seed with a confidence-inducing win over #147 Garcia Perez, 6-3 6-2. Maria got out-hit in winners column (10 vs. 21), but committed lot less unforced errors than the Spaniard (13 vs. 31).
Maria went 0-9 in tour-level matches this year, before winning her first WTA match of 2018 on clay at Charleston, defeating Lauren Davis, 6-3 6-0. She followed that win by taking a set off the Australian #1 Ash Barty before losing to her in three sets.
The German has played at Bogota nine times now, debuting in 2007. Five out of her previous eight appearances have ended in first rounds, while the remaining three ending in the second round.

Daniela Seguel News

Daniela Seguel became the first Chilean to win a WTA main draw match since Silvana Urroz in 1980 (Nagoya, Japan). She dominated her hour and 13 minutes first round match over Nicole Gibbs, which included an 11-game winning stretch for Seguel.
The 25-year-old will post a new career high-rank next week, but will move above #175 with another win. This will make a huge difference as she will be able to get into most WTA qualifying rounds, something she couldn’t do with a 230+ ranking last year.
Seguel won two (clay) ITF titles last year, including her career’s biggest one, a $50,000 at Barcelona, where she defeated #202 Amandine Hesse in the final.
