Ashleigh Barty vs Eugenie Bouchard

Ashleigh Barty, who had lost her previous first-round matches at Wimbledon (2012 and 2017), defeated Stefanie Voegele 7-5 6-3 in an hour and 17 minutes, registering her first main draw win at SW19. The Aussie won 71% on her first serve and struck 33 winners to get the win on Tuesday.
Barty leads the tour with an 11-2 record on grass in 2018, including a title at Nottingham (d. Konta). Ten of those 11 wins came in straight sets. The 17th seed is looking to match her best slam result with a win today, having reached the third round of Australian Open (2017 and 2018) and US Open (2017).
Eugenie Bouchard, playing the main draw of a slam as a qualifier for the first time, defeated local wildcard #180 Gabriella Taylor to register her first main draw win since February, when she had reached the quarterfinal at Taipei. The Canadian won 73% on her first serve (29/40) and converted 5/13 break points.
Bouchard, who was the finalist at All England Club just four years ago (l. Kvitova), is bidding for her first top 20 win since 2017 Madrid (d. #2 Kerber). At slams, she has not secured such a win since defeating #19 Konta at 2016 Wimbledon, having an 8-13 record in majors against top 20 opponents.
The pair’s only previous encounter came in the first round of 2017 Miami, when the Aussie prevailed in three sets taking two hours and six minutes (6-4 5-7 6-3). Barty, the favorite of this match-up, is seeking to avoid the worst loss-by-rank of her slam career, aside from losing to S. Williams at 2018 French Open.

Tennis Prediction: Ashleigh Barty 2-0 SET
